The First Win

After just nine years and three months, we’ve paid off our first student loan as part of the debt snowball we started back in August, 2008. It took 13 months and almost $1,800 in extra payments to get it done. Check it out:

Sallie Mae Paid Off

So, now it’s on to my student loan since that’s the next lowest in principle.

What a feeling of accomplishment you guys must have! I know it must have been lots of hard work and sacrifice.

I’d also like to give a shout out (yeah, I know, I can’t really pull that phrase off) to Susan Whited. She took us through the Good Sense money course while we were waiting for Addison. Pre-pregnancy, I didn’t think courses like that were useful; I knew they’d all say “save more, spend less, don’t charge stuff.” But we both found a lot of value in the course, and I think God’s really blessed us with the stick-to-itiveness that we didn’t have pre-baby.

Super! “Live like no one else, so you can live like no one else.” That first win has got to be such positive reinforcement! Look how your example has spread all the way to St Louis!
